BERLIN, 09 July 2024 — The Philippine Embassy in Berlin organized an on-site and online forum titled “German Law on the Modernization of Nationality Law (StARMoDG) and Reacquisition/Retention of Philippine Citizenship under RA 9225” on Monday, 08 July 2024 at the Philippine Embassy’s Sentro Rizal. The Philippine Consulate General in Frankfurt co-hosted the forum.
The forum provided attendees with an in-depth understanding of recent reforms under the StARModG, and the process of reacquiring or retaining Philippine citizenship under Republic Act No. 9225.
Mr. Matthias Nübold, a specialist migration lawyer, was the forum’s guest speaker. He highlighted the recent changes in the German nationality law and its implications for dual citizenship. The more restrictive points of the new German law were also discussed.
To complement Mr. Nübold’s presentation, Vice Consul Dana Michelle C. Del Rosario gave a short presentation on Republic Act 9225, emphasizing the process and requirements for reacquiring or retaining Philippine citizenship.
On-site and online forum participants raised questions and sought clarification on certain provisions of the German and Philippine laws allowing dual citizenship during the Q&A session.
The Embassy in Berlin and the Consulate in Frankfurt have started accepting and processing applications for dual citizenship under RA 9225 shortly after the StARModG took effect on 27 June of this year.
