19 June 2022 – The Philippine Embassy in Berlin, representatives of the Knights of Rizal, Ladies for Rizal, and Filipino student scholars in Berlin paid tribute to the life and works of our Dr. Jose Rizal to celebrate the 161st anniversary of his birth.
The occasion was marked by a simple ceremony with live-plant offering and poetry reading in front of Dr. Rizal’s former apartment at Jägerstrasse 71. It was in Berlin that his Noli Me Tangere was first published.
Germany had a special place in the heart of Dr. Rizal. He once referred to it as his “scientific mother country,” where he immersed in various intellectual pursuits and maintained close friendships with German scientists.
