Philippine Embassy in Berlin Conducts Consular Outreach Services in Essen

December 16, 2015

1

Filipinos from North Rhine-Westphalia at the Consular Outreach in Essen

More than 200 Filipinos traveled to Essen to avail of consular services during the Philippine Embassy’s tenth and final consular outreach in 2015.  A team composed of Consul Rona Beth G. Goce, Mr. Jovencio P. Catbagan, Ms. Maria Cecilia G. Estrella, Ms. Nelma Jose-Casas and Mr. Melchor D. Francisco met with members of the Filipino community from all over North Rhine-Westphalia and processed 132 passport renewals and 74 consular-related documents.

Interested applicants were also able to consult Ms. Wilma M. Ortiz and Mr. Lester Paul S. Mata of the Philippine Social Security System (SSS) Milan Representative Office who joined the Embassy team for the consular outreach in Essen.  The SSS officials answered queries and processed SSS membership contributions during the one-day outreach.

Honorary Vice Consul Milagros Wandelt of the Philippine Honorary Consulate in Essen provided full logistical and administrative support during the mission which was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Bank im Bistum in Essen.

Consular activities in different parts of Germany are meant to make consular services more accessible to Filipino nationals who are based in areas far from the Philippine Embassy in Berlin.  Earlier missions have been conducted in Bonn, Cologne, Schifferstadt, Schweinfurt, Bochum, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich. A new list of outreach missions for 2016 will be announced soon at the website of the Philippine Embassy in Berlin. END.

Heneral Luna Caps the Pilot Run of The First Reel: Philippine Film Festival Berlin

December 10, 2015

Still_011

Jerrold Tarog´s much acclaimed bio-epic “Heneral Luna” brought the pilot run of The First Reel: Philippine Film Festival to a close. Set during the Philippine-American war, the film follows the life of one of Philippine history´s most brilliant military men, General Antonio Luna, as he tries to lead his countrymen against colonial masters and to rise above their own raging disputes to fulfill the promise of the Philippine Revolution.

An eager international audience easily filled out two theaters for a simultaneous screening at the Kino Moviemento, the oldest running cinema in Berlin.

To date, “Heneral Luna” has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Filipino films of all time, raking in $5.3 million since its Philippine premiere in September of this year.

The First Reel is the first festival to focus on Philippine films in Germany and aims to contribute to the international promotion of Philippine cinema. The festival was a collaboration among the Philippine Embassy in Germany, the Philippine Studies Series Berlin and the Kapisanan ng mga Pilipino sa Aachen, e.V.

Still_009

The Philippine Studies Series Berlin is an initiative of Filipino scholars in Berlin to provide a platform for lectures, discussions, and film events regarding the Philippines in order to promote Philippine studies in Berlin. The Kapisanan ng mga Pilipino sa Aachen e.V. is a Filipino organization in North Rhine Westphalia. END
