FFONG Musical Night presents a Multitude of Filipino-German Talents

The Federation of Filipino Organizations in Northern Germany, e. V. (FFONG) held a Musical Night celebrating Filipino talents in Hamburg and nearby areas.  Presentations included musical pieces which were sang and played on piano, saxophone and guitar by Filipino-German talents.

Philippine Embassy Charge d´Affaires Lillibeth Pono recognized FFONG as one of the Embassy´s staunch partners in ensuring consular concerns of its members are attended to, in promoting camaraderie among Filipino community members in northern Germany, and in uplifting the image of the Philippines in Germany.

The Musical Night also featured (left) Ms. Janine Goos (guitar), Mr. Edwin Gonzales (vocals) and guest performer (right) Mr. Jack Nuguid (guitar).

CDA Pono further expressed her delight in being part of FFONG´s celebration of music, “Music has always played a big role in the lives of Filipinos. It has already been prevalent even in our history as a people.  Germany, on the other hand, oh – we all know how rich their musical history is! Put these two together, and we have incredibly talented young Filipino-German musical artists who can one day be the future of both Filipino and German music.”

FFONG´s Musical Night was organized to provide young artists a platform to showcase their talents and to promote appreciation for music with the help of other local musical artists.

There are over a thousand Filipinos based in Hamburg, according to the latest figures from the German Federal Statistics Office.  FFONG is one of the twenty Filipino Organizations based in Hamburg. END

FILIPINO TALENT TAKES CENTERSTAGE AT “MARCO POLO, A NEW MUSICAL”

The Philippine Embassy in Berlin and the Artists Theatre Company hosted the Philippine Gala Night of “Marco Polo – When you find Your True Love, A New Musical” at the Admiralspalast Studio in Berlin on 2 November 2018.  Members of German government, the diplomatic community, the Filipino community as well as the Embassy´s business contacts attended the event.

“Marco Polo – When You Find Your True Love, A New Musical” is written and produced by Filipino-Belgian Rogelio Saldo Chua. It followed the story of Italian adventurer Marco Polo as he embarked on a quest to assist the Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. Along the way, he encountered great friendship, great enemies, and great love with the Khan’s own daughter. The story speaks of choices that had to be made between duty, pride, ambition, sacrifice, power, glory and love.

Thirteen of the 26-member cast, including writer-producer Rogelio Saldo Chua and several veteran stage actors, are Filipinos, the rest are Europe-based actors.

Philippine Embassy Charge d´Affaires Lillibeth V. Pono commended  Mr. Chua for composing and producing the new musical, “As a story tracing the voyage of a Venetian protagonist and his missions involving the Mongol emperor Kublai Khan, a narrative as rich as this deserves to be handled with great care. As such, it is a great pleasure and honor to know that this musical was composed and produced by a fellow Filipino”.

Shortly after the musical´s run in the German capital, it presented one more show in Belgium before capping this year´s European run.  It also had previous runs in Manila, Paris and London.  END

Philippine Embassy Holds Consular Outreach in Hamburg

The Philippine Embassy in Berlin conducted a consular mission in Hamburg on November 10, 2018, where it rendered a total of thirty-six consular services including passport renewal, certification and notarial services, and one-on-one consultations.

The consular outreach mission was successfully delivered through close cooperation and coordination with the Mindanao Solid Group e.V. and the Filipino Catholic Community in Hamburg.

Approximately 1,600 Filipinos reside in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, Germany’s second largest city and one of the country’s 16 states.

METRO MANILA OFFICIALS CONCLUDE PRODUCTIVE STUDY VISIT TO BERLIN

Officials from Metro Manila and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently completed a productive visit to Berlin where they observed and studied the German capital’s best practices on urban management.

The delegation led by Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, included local chief executives of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Mandaluyong, Muntinlupa, Pateros, and San Juan, and MMDA General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia, Jr.

The visit started with an official welcome reception in honor of the delegation held at the Philippine Embassy on October 20. In her remarks during the event, Embassy Chargé d’affaires Lillibeth Pono expressed gratitude for having been given the honor to organize the delegation’s visit. They were then given a comprehensive briefing on Philippine-German relations, the Embassy’s functions, and the State of Berlin.

The highlight of the study visit was a special briefing held on October 23 organized by the Embassy and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS).

KAS Deputy Secretary General Dr. Gerhard Wahlers welcomed the delegation and in his speech, he underscored the Foundation’s longstanding partnership with the Philippines. This was followed by an informative presentation on the German federal system delivered by Prof. Dr. Georg Milbradt, former Minister President (equivalent of governor) of the State of Saxony. He also shared his experience as a former state chief executive, particularly his expertise on fiscal matters.

Prof. Dr. Milbradt encouraged the Metro Manila officials to carefully study the systems of government of various countries and develop a system that would best serve the interest of the Philippines and the Filipino people. He added that for a federal state to succeed, it must be able to offer  benefits to its component political entities, such as security and economic incentives, which the latter would have difficulty achieving as an independent state.

The following days were devoted to visits to Berlin’s water treatment plant and waste-to-heat facility, and the EUREF Campus, a testing site for new transportation (such as autonomous vehicles and electric vehicle charging facilities), energy generation, and building technologies, where the delegation looked into potential technological solutions to Metro Manila’s problems.
