October 15, 2019

The Philippine Embassy Consular Team: Mr. Daryl Lazo (4th from left), Mr. Elvin Jay Alejandro (5th from left), Mr. Ruben Atienza (4th from right), Vice Consul Marie Cris Chieng (3rd from right), and Ms. Lourdes Marie Reyes (2nd from right), with some volunteers from the Filipino community

The Philippine Embassy in Berlin conducted its first-ever consular mission in Bremen on 12 October 2019, where it rendered a total of fifty-five consular services including passport renewal, certification and notarial services, and one-on-one consultations.

The consular outreach mission was successfully delivered through close cooperation and coordination with Filipino community leaders in Bremen, many of whom are members of the Filipino Catholic Mission (PKM) Bremen. The community expressed their appreciation for the Embassy’s efforts to bring consular services closer to them, noting their delight of having avoided a long commute to Berlin because of the Embassy’s visit.

Located about 5 hours from Berlin, the City of Bremen is a transportation hub which has easy connections to port-cities of Bremerhaven and Hamburg, and to various cities of the neighboring State of Lower Saxony. Approximately 255 Filipinos reside in the Free City of Bremen. END.

Upon completing the physical set-up for the outreach, the Consular Team hit the ground running.

Philippine Ambassador Theresa Dizon-De Vega delivered a presentation on Phiippine-Germany Healthcare Cooperation at the European Health Congress held at the Hilton Hotel Munich, Germany on 27 September 2019.

Outlining the history of the entry of Filipino nursing and other healthcare-related fields professionals to Germany starting in the late 1960s, Ambassador Dizon-De Vega discussed the various opportunities and challenges in the implementation of a truly beneficial healthcare cooperation arrangement between the Philippines and Germany.

The focus of the presentation is the ongoing implementation of the Triple Win Healthcare Placement Program between the two countries which seeks to benefit the professionals source countries, the destination country, and the healthcare professionals themselves with access to advance training and technology.

Mechanisms to further improve the landmark Triple Win Agreement signed in 2013 were likewise presented and discussed during the Panel Discussion at the European Health Conference.

A Filipina nurse, Ms. Reyna Java, originally from Iloilo also spoke briefly about her experiences as one of the nursing professionals who entered Germany under the healthcare cooperation program. She acknowledged that the greatest challenge was achieving proficiency in the German Language at a technical level but stated that it could be done with commitment and diligence.

The European Health Congress with over 1,000 delegates brings together experts and resource persons in various health-related fields such as Medical Technology, health professions, academe, researches, public health advocates, among others to discuss latest trends, challenges, and opportunities in healthcare in Europe.

Filipino runners from different parts of the world join Ambassador Theresa Dizon-De Vega for a pre-Marathon photo at the PH Embassy

Filipino participants of the 2019 Berlin Marathon got a morale and carbo boost from the Philippine Embassy in Berlin last September 28, the eve of the much-awaited elite sporting event.

Over 50 Filipino runners from the Philippines, the US, and the Middle East enjoyed a carbohydrate-rich Filipino dinner at the Embassy with old friends and new acquaintances.

Philippine Ambassador to Germany Theresa Dizon-de Vega welcomed the runners to the Embassy, and was out on the streets of Berlin on marathon day itself, September 29, to show her support.

The dinner, the second such event organized by the Embassy, was part of its Sports Diplomacy and Martial Arts Day celebration, which included an arnis demonstration by the Deutscher Arnis Verband e.V on Breitscheidplatz, along Berlin’s famed Kurfürstendamm Avenue.

The Berlin Marathon is one of the world’s elite marathon races held annually in the German capital since 1974. The current world record time for a marathon was established in the 2018 Berlin Marathon and remains unsurpassed. This year’s marathon and its side events attracted over 62,000 people from 150 countries, including the Philippines. END
